Theft at Marampa Minning Limited: Lawyer Testify

Forty-two-years old Bayoh Kargbo an Electrician made his first appearance before Magistrate Santigie Bangura of Pademba road court No.2 in Freetown on a count of Larceny servant contrary to section 17 (1) (a) of the Larceny Act 1916.

According to the particulars of offence on Saturday 26th October 2024 at Marampa Minning limited Lunsar, at the port loko Judicial District the North West Region in Freetown being an electrician engineer employed by the Marampa Minning limited stole quantity of different sizes of electrical cables with the total value of five hundred and twenty six thousand one hundred and forty six Leone property of the Marampa Minning Limited.

When the charge was read and explained to the accused person no plea taken.

Sergeant 8811 Florence M Wilson led prosecution witness number one Tejan conteh resided at Marampa Minning site Lunsar a barrister and solicitor of the High court said he recognized the accused person as a colleague at the Marampa Minning Limited.

He recalled on the 26th October 2024 something transpired between the accused person and the complainant the accused person together with some workers were asked to load some company cables into a company vehicle with registration number AUX 014 one Ezekel Koroma prepared the gate pass stating the items to be taken out the witness produce and tendered the gate pass marked as exhibit A.

The witness said the supervisor Agung Prianbada asked the accused to accompany the consignment to the company’s mines site at Tokeh the accused accompanied the consignment with his own vehicle, the gate pass was produced and shown to the security guards, who verified the items.

The accused was asked by the security guard to explained the consignment which he did and left for Tokeh. He offloaded the items at Tokeh their staff at Tokeh Fobie collected the gate pass.

They alerted the police that the vehicle stopped at MacDonald’s where the suspected criminal activities took place. The police then searched the area and discovered cables belonging to the company. The list of cables discovered there was forwarded to them pictures of the GPS movement of the vehicle were shown to him.

The GPS was produced for identification the witness said the cables that was found was sent to their procurement department who gave them a cost of the items. The witness said they conducted their internal investigations in which the accused admitted that he instructed the driver to drop some of the cables in the compound in which they were found. He made statement to the police.

The defense counsel L.J Kamara cross examined the witness.

Meanwhile Magistrate Bangura refused bail and sent the accused person to the male correctional facility in Freetown matter adjourned to the 19th December 2024.
