Residents of the Kokoayima Section in Koidu City, Kono District, were gripped with fear and shock in the early hours of Monday, June 9, 2025, after discovering the lifeless body of a teenager identified only as “Boss Boss” lying on a concrete slab along Masingbi Road, near a location known as Benz Garage.

The deceased, reportedly found lying on his back and nearly naked, showed no visible signs of physical injuries or wounds. According to several onlookers, the victim was known in the area as a kush (synthetic drug) user, a notorious thief, and someone who earned a living through self-employed subsistence waste collection commonly referred to as “Clean Sa Leone.”

Some residents suspect the teen’s death may be linked to kush abuse, while others believe he may have been subjected to mob justice after allegedly stealing and being caught. They theorized that he may have died at the spot after being attacked or succumbing to the effects of drug use.

His body remained at the scene for almost two days without identification, sparking public concern about hygiene and the health risks posed to residents and road users in the Benz Garage area. The potential for decomposition in such a public and strategic location prompted further alarm.

With no family or community members coming forward to claim the body, the Koidu New Sembehun City Council took responsibility for burying the remains in line with its mandate as a local government authority representing the central government.

The case remains a subject of public debate, with many calling for further investigation into the exact cause of death and increased efforts to tackle youth drug abuse and street crime in Koidu City.
