The Chiefdom Development Committee of Tankoro chiefdom, Kono District has handed over Le 2,300,000,000 construction project to at least three constriction companies in the district.
The said handing over ceremony took place at the Tankoro Native Barray in Koidu city – Kono District.
According to the chairman of the above named committee, Dr. Alpha Kpetewama, the two point three billion Leones construction project awarded to the three construction companies was money given by the Koidu Limited Diamond Company to the C.D.C in accordance with the 2009 Mining Act which requires all concessions companies to deliver corporate social responsibility projects in mining communities.
In his statement, the Mayor of the Koidu New Sembehun City Council, His worship Ambassador Mathew Komba Sam, thanked the membership of the C.D.C for their frantic efforts towards the construction project. He encouraged them to do more as the reward for hard work is more work. He noted that the lucky awarded contractors need to be committed to their work and be sincere enough by making their estimates accurately. He said construction works must stand the test of time.
Sahr Solomon Gbondo is the chairman Kono District Council and also expressed similar sentiments.
He also advised the CDC membership to later include a community health centre as one of the key facilities that is always needed in almost all the communities in the district. He reminded about the aphorism: “Health is wealth”.
Expressing their gratitude, the three contractors Alhaji Barrie, Charles Jenklyns Bartholomew and their colleagues thanked the CDC chairman and the entire membership for availing them such opportunity. He promised to do their best if only the materials or the money is enough and available on time.
