Swedish Allsvenskan side IF Elfsborg has officially announced the signing of 20-year-old Sierra Leonean attacking midfielder Momoh Ibrahim Kamara on loan from Minnesota United FC 2 for the remainder of the 2026 season (December 2026), with a fixed purchase option included, Elfsborg can make the transfer permanent for a pre-agreed fee.

Momoh I Kamara who started at Mattia FC in Sierra Leone, joined MNUFC 2 in early 2026, initially on loan, then permanent option exercised. He is already on site in Sweden, and has signed the contract, but some formalities, likely final visa/work permit paperwork, remain before he can fully join training and the squad.

MNUFC2 confirmed the loan the same day, describing it as “an important step in Momoh’s journey” and wishing him the best in Sweden.

Momoh Kamara expressed delight on joining Elfsborg and the challenge ahead: “I’m excited and happy to be here. Elfsborg is a big club in Sweden, and this is a big thing for me to come here. I’m coming to challenge myself, learn new things and help the team as much as possible. Hopefully I can soon start training with the team, and I’m really looking forward to it.”

Momoh I Kamara who has been capped six times for the country’s senior men’s national team Leone Stars, also mentioned the confidence boost from scoring his first international goal for Leone Stars during the FIFA World Cup qualifiers. “It was awesome to score my first goal with the national team in the World Cup qualifier, it gave me a lot of confidence.”

IF Elfsborg Manager, Björn Hamberg welcomed and attributed to the youngsters hunger and his development with his new club; “We are very happy to welcome Momoh Kamara to IF Elfsborg. Momoh is a young and hungry player who comes to continue developing in our environment. He possesses qualities that we think complement the squad very well.”

The club’s director, Stefan Andreasson says Momoh is a player the club have noticed during the winter and wanted to see him in Elfsborg colors; “Momoh is a player we noticed during the winter whom we wanted to see in Elfsborg’s colours. Since then we have had a very good dialogue with Minnesota and Momoh has shown great interest in coming to us. This has led to us now agreeing on a loan for the rest of the season with a fixed purchase option.”

Elfsborg see the 20-year-old Sierra Leone international as an offensive midfielder who can add intensity, breakthrough ability, and attacking quality to the squad. The move gives Momoh Kamara senior European exposure in Allsvenskan after impressing in MLS Next Pro.

He is expected to start integrating with the team once paperwork clears. Elfsborg’s Allsvenskan season opener is at home against IFK Göteborg on April 6, 2026, he may or may not be available immediately, depending on the remaining formalities.

The club posted a welcome video and photos on social media with the yellow-and-black branding.

This looks like a low-risk, high-upside move for Elfsborg and a great development opportunity for Momoh I. Kamara.
