The Sports Writers Association of Sierra Leone has on 8th July join the rest of the World to celebrate International Sports Journalism Day in the Southern District of BO City.
Sports Journalist Day is a day that is set aside by the international body (AIPS) for all Sports Journalists across the Globe. The Organization has been in operation for over ninety years, it was founded in the Year 1924 and next year will mark the organization (99) years.
Sahr Morris Junior the President of the Sports Writers Association of Sierra Leone while making his keynote statement said this is the very first time, they are commemorating International Sports Journalists Day out of Freetown for this year’s celebration. They decided to choose BO City the Southern Region to celebrate the day and it has been the very first region to host the team in commemorating this day across the Globe.
He affirmed that the Federation is happy because of the support colleagues in this part of the Country have given to the Federation in moving the Association’s activities forward. Noting that colleagues in BO need to work hard to evaluate the good work of their colleagues like Ishmael Saidu Kanu who has won the ninth 9th edition of Sport Journalists in Africa and the West Africa sub-region. He added that Sports administrators in the Country should not see Sports Journalists as their enemies but rather as a partner in developing the sports sector.
Mustapha Haroun Korie Director of Sports in the Ministry of Sports said they know Sports Journalism has played a pivotal role in transforming Sports in the Country and the Ministry of Sports is always open up to work with the Federation at any time, all because of their tremendous job they are doing in reporting Sports in their various Medium.
The newly Elected Chairman of the Southern Region said they are happy to host the event in that of the Country and they are fully ready to work with them at any time in developing the Sports sector.
The Celebration attracted thousands of fans who turn up to witness the Football match between the SWASAL National Association vs the Southern Region. The Football match ended one nil (1-0) in favour of the SWASAL Association.
