As the world commemorated International Women’s Day, the SWAKAB Women’s Organization appealed to humanitarian organizations for logistical support, including sewing machines, soap-making supplies, and materials for gara tie-dyeing.
Addressing dozens of women during the Iftar (break of fast) event at their head office in Devil Hole, Fana Street, the Chief Executive Officer of SWAKAB, Nurse Isata SWAKAB, commended the widows and single parents for their participation and encouraged them to continue fostering unity as one family.
Mrs. SWAKAB used the occasion to showcase the organization’s ongoing initiatives, which include tailoring, soap-making, gara tie-dyeing, nursing, and business management. She emphasized that with the introduction of these self-reliance skills, she believes the widows and single parents will be empowered to sustain themselves without relying on external support from men.
She appealed to like-minded individuals and humanitarian organizations to assist them with the necessary tools to help cater to more underprivileged women in their community.
Former UNIMAK Students’ Union President, Edmond Fornah, encouraged the women to take the organization seriously, stressing that donor support would only follow if they demonstrated commitment. On behalf of his organization, he pledged to support two teenage mothers with sewing machines upon the completion of their programs at SWAKAB.
