Sierra Leone Senior National team Leone Stars has on 11th January 2022 held the dessert Warriors of Algeria to a goalless at the Doula Stadium in Cameroon.

The match started with a pace play from both teams but Sierra Leone enjoyed most of the ball possession in the first half but failed to convert any chances as Alhaji Kamara and Mohamed Buya Turay both failed  to get the courting raiser of the match. The defending champion finds it difficult to break through the half of Sierra Leone as the partnership in the back four for Sierra Leone is outstanding. The first half ended goalless.

After the recess, the defending champion of Africa Algeria started causing more pressure for the defense of Sierra Leone but the good partnership of defense kept at bay.

Algeria came very close twice to get a goal in the second but in the second of second half of play they fight hard for a goal but the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone held firmly to deny the Algerians any chances.

Algeria forward Yacine Brahimi shot straight at goal Keeper Mohamed Kamara who also tipped a low short from Riyad Mahrez past the post, Kamara also denied the Ramy Bensebaini and Baghdad Bounedjah in the closing stages of the match.

According to John Keister, the game plan works well because starting with such high profile match and grabbing a point against the defending champion means a lot.

“We will continue to push hard in our next matches against Ivory Coast” Coach Keister assured.

The Partnership of Steven Caulker and Umaru Bangura prove fruitful for the Leone Stars side as both players had to make two crucial blocks to help Leone Stars secure their first clean sheet on their first appearance since 1996.
