The United States Ambassador to Sierra Leone, the Honorable Bryan Hunt, held strategic discussions with Dr. Turad Senesie, Minister of Lands, Housing, and Country Planning, on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at the Youyi Building in Freetown.
Ambassador Hunt was accompanied by a delegation of American private investors, underscoring growing U.S. interest in Sierra Leone’s infrastructure development ambitions. Central to the dialogue was the proposed Freetown-Lungi bridge an infrastructure initiative widely regarded as transformative for national connectivity and economic mobility.
The closed-door meeting focused on exploring collaborative frameworks through which American investors could support and participate in this landmark project. If realized, the bridge will serve as a vital link between Sierra Leone’s capital and its international gateway at Lungi, significantly reducing travel time and enhancing trade, tourism, and logistics.
Ministry officials expressed optimism about the outcome of the engagement. “This meeting reflects genuine international interest in Sierra Leone’s infrastructural growth,” said a spokesperson. “We look forward to advancing discussions and delivering tangible results to the public soon.”
While specifics of the investment proposals remain confidential, the Ministry has pledged to maintain transparency as negotiations progress.
Beyond infrastructure, the meeting marked a broader commitment by both nations to deepen bilateral cooperation and promote sustainable development.
The visit by Ambassador Hunt and the American business delegation is being hailed as a milestone in Sierra Leone’s pursuit of strategic partnerships to unlock long-term growth. The Ministry expects continued dialogue and concrete developments in the coming weeks, potentially paving the way for groundbreaking progress on one of the country’s most ambitious public infrastructure projects.
