General Ali Mohamed Al-Ali, Director of the Arab and International Police Liaison Department and Head of Qatar’s National Central Bureau, met with Sierra Leone’s Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. William Fayia Sellu, on the sidelines of the 27th INTERPOL African Regional Conference in Cape Town.
IGP Sellu, who also serves as Chairman of the West Africa Police Chiefs Committee (WAPCCO), engaged with General Al-Ali to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations between Qatar’s law enforcement agencies and the Sierra Leone Police.
During the meeting, General Al-Ali highlighted Qatar’s ongoing investments in artificial intelligence, software development, and cybercrime response. He assured that these initiatives would enhance cooperation with Sierra Leone and provide valuable support to the country’s policing efforts. He also encouraged continued engagement between the two countries to address emerging challenges in law enforcement.
In response, IGP Sellu expressed his gratitude for Qatar’s commitment to supporting INTERPOL’s leadership. He emphasized that investing in technology and capacity-building is crucial for advancing modern policing in Sierra Leone. He further underscored the importance of international partnerships, especially as Sierra Leone prepares to host the ECOWAS Summit under the chairmanship of His Excellency Rtd Brigadier Dr. Julius Maada Bio.
“The hosting of the ECOWAS Summit is a major national security responsibility, and enhanced cooperation with international partners will be essential to ensuring effective policing,” IGP Sellu stated.
Both officials reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation and advancing joint efforts to combat transnational organized crime.
