The leadership of the Bo District Council on Thursday held a cordial and forward-looking engagement with the newly posted United States Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Jared Yancey, aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation and advancing development initiatives in the district.
The high-level meeting provided a platform for both parties to deepen collaboration and explore areas of mutual interest focused on improving the socio-economic well-being of citizens.
Speaking during the engagement, the Chief Administrator of the Council, Vivian Sally Senesie, outlined ongoing development interventions across key sectors. She highlighted progress in road connectivity described as a flagship priority of the Council alongside efforts in education, healthcare delivery, and other essential social services.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Bo District Council, Hindowa Bindi, underscored the Council’s commitment to reducing maternal and child mortality rates in the district. He acknowledged the continued support of the United States Government through various health-focused interventions that are positively impacting vulnerable communities.
Chairman Bindi also proposed the establishment of a twinning arrangement between Bo District and a city or district in the United States. According to him, such a partnership would facilitate exchange visits, promote cultural understanding, and enhance institutional capacity through knowledge sharing.
He further appealed to the Ambassador to work closely with the Government of Sierra Leone to address concerns surrounding visa restrictions affecting Sierra Leoneans, expressing hope for a timely resolution.
In response, Ambassador Yancey reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to supporting Sierra Leone’s development agenda. He referenced ongoing assistance through initiatives such as the Millennium Challenge Corporation Compact, as well as other programs targeting maternal and child health.
On the issue of travel restrictions, the Ambassador assured the Council that discussions are ongoing at the appropriate levels, noting that updates would be communicated as policies continue to evolve.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both sides expressing optimism about strengthening collaboration and sustaining development efforts that will deliver tangible benefits to the people of Bo District.
