Implementing a project funded by the World Bank, an NGO called Street Child-SL has conducted a day’s training for teachers from ten selected schools in the Bo district.
Speaking to this medium, the Project Coordinator Street Child -SL ,Hawa Shour said that they went through rigorous scrutiny before being selected by the World Bank to implement this project.
The training was basically about Infection Prevention and Control on Covid-19.
This aims to ensure that learning goes on in our schools even in the face of the deadly pandemic.
About 20 teachers attended the training at the Street Child office at Hancile road in Bo.
Every one of the ten schools sent two teachers who will be cascading the training to colleagues in their respective schools.
They will serve as focal persons in ensuring that the disease does not spread and prevent learning from taking place.
Personnel from the DHMT in Bo were the trainers of these teachers as it involves some basic first aid and medical practice.
This project is supposed to last for a year and might be renewed based on the prevalence of the disease in the communities.
The project is going to cover five districts in the country and Street Child-SL is going to implement it with nine other NGOs; Save the Children, FoRUT, Focus 1000, Humanities And Inclusion, Plan International among others.
The districts covered are Bonthe, Bo, Bombali, Karene and Falaba.
These trained teachers are expected to work with the communities in which they are located to stop and prevent the spread of the disease.
The communities include; Mano Jaiama, Gbangema Jaiama, Tobu-Tikonko,, New London, Madina, Batema, Ngelehun, Moribatown, Dodo section and Bundobu..
The ‘benefits of children coming to school outweighs the risks’ which was why this training was conducted in the first place.
As education is key Street Child, in partnership with the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education do not want covid-19 to be the deterrent to the education of children especially in vulnerable communities in the country.
