Street Child SL Bo office has on the 2nd. December 2022 given back interest accrued on grant money they gave to parent’s in order to sustain their businesses.
These are parents whose children are on the margins and are vulnerable.
The program targets parents in all four districts in the southern province; Bo, Bo the, Moyamba and Pujehun.
But in Bo district office where Hawa Shour is Program Coordinator the parents received a grant of Le. 800,000( Old Leone) to help their existing businesses or to start new ones . They were supposed to have saved Le. 5,000( old currency) per day for up to 20 weeks.
A total number of 202 families received a grant of Le.800,000 ( old currency) but only 199 saved with Street Child SL Bo.
Speaking to the beneficiaries, the section chief, Santigie Bangura entreated the parents “make the best use of the opportunity for the education of their children”.
And also reminded them that Street Child SL is not going to be around always to provide the grant money.
On her part, Program Coordinator, Hawa Shour said that they are “going to double whatever amount these parents have saved with them.”
And that it is done to help parents “keep their children in school.”
A beneficiary, Adama sounded very grateful to Street Child SL and said that the money has made some difference in her life as a parent.
