Statistics Sierra Leone (Stats-SL) has officially released its June 2025 Consumer Price Index (CPI) report, revealing significant developments in the country’s inflation dynamics. The report provides the public with essential insights into price changes across key sectors such as food, health, education, business, and services.
According to the report, the CPI for June 2025 shows a notable shift in inflation, capturing both upward and downward movements in consumer prices for various goods and services across Sierra Leone.
The Annual National Consumer Price Inflation (year-on-year) recorded a decline to 7.10% in June 2025, down from 7.55% in May, reflecting a 0.45 percentage point decrease.
Despite the overall decline, the report indicates upward inflationary trends in categories such as: clothing and footwear, furnishings and furniture, health, communication and recreation Services.
Conversely, significant declines in inflation were observed in food and non-alcoholic beverages, alcoholic beverages and tobacco, housing, water, and electricity, transport and restaurants and similar services.
Education stood out as the only category that recorded no change, making it the sole “non-mover” in the CPI indicators for June 2025.
The report underscores the impact of fluctuating consumer prices on everyday life in Sierra Leone, particularly in sectors with frequent consumption and demand. It also reflects broader economic conditions and the ongoing need for proactive economic policies.
Statistician-General, Mr. Andrew Bob-Johnny, emphasized the significance of the CPI report in guiding policy and development.
“The CPI report provides valuable insights into the dynamics of inflation in Sierra Leone and highlights changes in key sectors including education, health, and business,” Mr. Bob-Johnny said. “We will continue to work closely with stakeholders to analyze and address the underlying factors driving inflation.”
He commended the Stats-SL team for producing the report amidst existing challenges and reiterated the importance of reliable data for effective decision-making.
The June 2025 CPI report from Stats-SL offers a crucial tool for understanding economic trends in Sierra Leone. As inflation continues to influence the cost of living, the data will play a pivotal role in shaping economic strategies and ensuring that policies are responsive to the needs of citizens.
