On March 18, 2024, the esteemed Star Sports Football Academy held a briefing for journalists ahead of their second Detection Tournament at the Sierra Leone Football Academy in Kingtom. The primary objective of this tournament is to unearth promising football talent across the nation, fostering player development and scouting potential stars.

Alpha Fawundu, the Scribe of Star Sports Football Academy, emphasized the importance of updating journalists and the public about the outcomes of their previous detection tournament and the upcoming second edition slated to commence on Wednesday.

Tamba Ngongo, the Head Coach of Star Football Academy, shared insights into the progress made since the inaugural edition held at the BO City Southern Arena Stadium. Several players discovered during the first tournament were given opportunities for trials in Turkey. While not all were selected by foreign scouts, Ngongo highlighted the positive impact of such projects on player development and the club’s business endeavors.

Ngongo expressed satisfaction with the players’ development, noting that two of them are currently training with senior and reserve teams at Antalya Sport in Turkey. He credited the success to the initial detection and the collaboration with scouts who facilitated the process.

Looking ahead, Ngongo revealed that several scouts have expressed interest in the upcoming tournament. Five players are set to depart Freetown for opportunities in Turkey, America, Sweden, Russia, and Egypt. Additionally, preparations are underway for a U-15 tournament in Turkey scheduled for May, prompting the decision to organize another detection tournament to scout players for European opportunities.

Mohamed Susu Tarawallie, the CEO of Star Sports Football Academy, highlighted the significance of proper preparation for the tournament, considering the multitude of upcoming events in Sweden and Turkey. He emphasized the honor of being the first Sierra Leonean academy invited to participate in a U-18 tournament of such stature.

In further developments, Star Football Academy is on the verge of commencing construction on their stadium and administrative buildings, signaling a significant step forward in their infrastructure and facilities.
