Stakeholders Meet To Protect Dams, Water Catchment at Kamboi Hills

On Thursday 9th February, 2023, Mr. Lansana Ba Sawi, the Regional Manager-East and Mr. Braima Allieu, Regional Human Resources and Administrative Manager- East both of the Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO) visited the offices of key stakeholders including the Ministry of Mines and Mineral Resources, Ministry of Lands, Housing and Country Planning, the Military and Environment Protection Agency.

The aim of the visit is to engage and inform them about the ongoing illegal activities including, but not limited to gold and stone mining, timber logging/ deforestation that are seriously affecting water catchment in that part of the country.

Mr. Sawi further expressed that these illegal activities have seriously affected the dams leading to the closure of one the dams. This, he said is not a good signal.

All stakeholders engaged expressed their dissatisfaction over these activities in the Kamboi Hills and guaranteed their support in bringing the unsolicited situation to a stop.

A further meeting is scheduled with the Minister of State, East, aimed at discussing the ugly situation to ensure that all parties concerned are called to a meeting and to find a lasting solution for the protection of the water catchment.
