The Minister of Sports, Augusta James‑Teima, has congratulated Sierra Leonean Paralympic athlete Elizabeth Kargbo for winning a bronze medal in the T47 Women’s Javelin at the Fazza International Para Athletics Grand Prix held in Dubai.
During a recognition ceremony, Minister James‑Teima praised Kargbo’s determination and described her achievement as a proud moment for Sierra Leone. She also commended Paralympic Association President Unisa Deen Kargbo for his dedication and sacrifices in supporting athletes despite challenges.
The Minister emphasized that sports foster unity, inclusion, and economic opportunity, noting that the Ministry of Sports, in collaboration with the National Sports Authority, is strengthening support systems for athletes nationwide.
Madam James‑Teima highlighted that she had previously presented medal-winning athletes to President Julius Maada Bio to recognize their achievements and inspire them to continue raising the national flag. She added that proper documentation of athletes’ records will enhance government reporting, including submissions to State House, and create more opportunities for support.
Highlighting the importance of inclusivity, the Minister praised the Paralympic movement for showcasing “ability in disability” and encouraged athletes to remain focused and disciplined. She assured the association of continued technical and financial support as it seeks partnerships and funding.
The Minister concluded by urging athletes and administrators to sustain their momentum and continue representing Sierra Leone with pride.
