The fourth national Spelling Bee is set to kick off this July, 2021. First, the district qualifying rounds starts on 9th July 2021 and ends on 30th September 2021. The regional spelling Bee will follow in October which will go through November of this year.
Although there are fears that the third wave of covid-19 might disturb the whole qualifying process but Mrs. Isatu Musa Harding who coordinates the Spelling Bee in the country sounded optimistic.
Sierra Leone is one of the countries in Africa recognized as doing well in the international competition and has been invited to take part in the international spelling Bee and the Scripps spelling Bee.
The last international spelling Bee competition was held in Uganda and Sierra Leone performed very well which was why we were invited as a country.
Mrs. Harding admitted that there are challenges in organizing the spelling Bee in the country which range from lack of government support to limited resources.
So, she is calling on corporate bodies to help her further this project for the good of our children.
This year’s competition will start in Moyamba and go round the country to every district. The principal of Bo school, Edward Kpakra seems to be supportive of the exercise even in the face of covid-19.
