Bo School Compound, Bo City, 22nd December 2024 The Resident Minister South, Chief John Abu, has called for unwavering support towards preserving the legacy and enhancing the infrastructure of Bo School, one of Sierra Leone’s most prestigious institutions. He made this appeal during the Old Bo Boys Association (OBBA) Bo Branch Barbeque and Dance fundraising event.
The event, held at the school’s compound, brought together alumni, parents, and community leaders to raise funds for much-needed infrastructural upgrades and initiatives to support students. The festive occasion featured a barbeque, musical performances, and lively dancing, creating a platform for alumni to reconnect and give back to their alma mater.
In his keynote address, Chief John Abu highlighted the pivotal role Bo School has played in shaping Sierra Leone’s educational and leadership landscape. “Bo School is not just a school; it is a beacon of excellence and leadership in this nation,” he remarked.
Reflecting on the institution’s rich history, he underscored its foundational mission of educating the sons of paramount chiefs and its evolution into a training ground for leaders across diverse sectors. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to advancing education through its “New Direction” agenda but stressed the need for collective effort in sustaining Bo School’s legacy.
“Government alone cannot carry the burden of education. It requires a shared commitment from all stakeholders. Your presence here tonight signifies a shared vision to ensure Bo School remains a bastion of excellence for generations to come,” the Minister said.
Chief Abu also encouraged parents to consider Bo School for their children, emphasizing its reputation for instilling discipline, excellence, and leadership qualities. “As a proud parent of Bo School alumni, I can attest to the invaluable values and education it imparts. Together, let us ensure this institution remains strong for the future,” he urged.
The fundraiser was hailed as a success, with significant funds raised to support key projects, including upgrading the school’s infrastructure, modernizing learning tools, and providing scholarships for underprivileged students.
The Master of Ceremony, Mr. Gasimu Mallah, commended the Resident Minister for his passionate advocacy and thanked the community for their steadfast support. “This event is not just about fundraising; it is a celebration of our shared commitment to preserving the legacy of Bo School,” he noted.
Bo School, renowned for producing prominent national leaders, including the current President Dr. Julius Maada Bio, remains an iconic institution in Sierra Leone’s educational landscape. Despite increasing competition from private and international schools, it continues to hold a special place in the hearts of Sierra Leoneans.
The evening concluded with alumni and supporters pledging their continued dedication to ensuring Bo School’s enduring success and its position as a cornerstone of excellence and leadership in Sierra Leone.
