SMART-AID DONATES LEARNING AID GADGETS TO SCHOOLS

In a bid to support the Free Quality Education, SMART-AID, a non-governmental organization has donated radios with accessories including solar panels and chargers to over hundred schools in Bo district. This radios have MP3 built in which contain learning contents for classes 3, 4,5and 6 in the primary school sector.

At a ceremony which took place at Methodist Resource Center in Bo and chaired by Simeon P. Foday who is the new Director of Teaching Service Commission in Bo, he told heads of schools and teachers that the radio will serve dual functions as it is loaded with contents that will enrich the learning process of children in those respective classes.

“It is a pilot phase that targets just over 100 schools in Bo but will be cascaded to other districts in future”, Alhaji, a representative of SMART-AID said. Each primary school received three radio sets , three solars and three chargers.

The paramount chief representative of Kakua chiefdom in Bo, James Mayei cautioned heads of schools to ‘handle the gadgets with great care’.

He added that while it should be used for the benefit of the children, teachers must ensure that children should not misuse the radio.

Caution was made that in the event these gadgets are misused the Anti Corruption Commission will be called on to resolve the matter.

Head teachers were also admonished to use these gadgets for the intended purpose. It was generally agreed that donations of this kind are unprecedented and therefore children must benefit academically from them.

Clarfications were sought bout the use of these gadgets by teachers on the use of the radio sets in particular. There were appropriate answers readily provided to the questions posed.

 The examination class which is class 6 was particular targeted as these gadgets are programmed to help increase the pass rate in the National Primary School Examination.

Speaking at the opening ceremony the DD, Simeon Foday said it is a great contribution to the Free Quality Education initiated by President Julius Maada Bio. A symbolic distribution of the gadget was done followed by the signing of a document which gave them responsibility to take full responsibility for the upkeep of the radio sets. Vote of thanks was done by one of the head teachers, Isata Kanneh who was very delighted to handle the gadget.
