It seems that the request and desires of the Sierra Leone Teacher’s Union (SLTU) has been fallen on deaf ears. According to the deputy Secretary General of the Union, Mr. Allieu Deen-Conteh told A-Z that they felt dissatisfied with the outcome of the meeting held with the Ministry of Basic Senior Secondary School (MBSS) on the 26th May, 2020 in Freetown.
Mr. Deen-Conteh adds that due to the disappointed outcome of the meeting held they decided to issue a 21 strike notice if their demands are not met. He said the notice has taken effect since Friday last weekend and that they expect all teachers to report for work until the time elapses.
He said the government gave them three weeks to look into their demands; unfortunately nothing much convincing was said to them, that has led them to such decision in concession with the law.
It is however interesting to note that the Union on behalf of teachers has requested for three allowances such as rent, transportation and health, and it is becoming daunting tasks in this economic age for teachers to survive with little earning.
However, it is in this vain they stand ready to ensuring that the terms and condition of service befits the teaching profession.
