The Sierra Leone Roads Authority has on Friday 18th February 2021, paid 2.6billion Leone compensation to Borboh-Tokeh and Funkya affected property owners.
Ing. Peter Komeh, Director of Asset Management at SLRA said at the compensation ceremony that the government has provided the funds for the affected property owners, but that upon receiving their money, they should not erect any structure along the right of way.
Ing. Komeh explained that people are in the habit of illegally constructing structures along the right of way, a move he said has one way or the other hindered progress of road construction not only in Freetown but across the country.
He said encouraging them to do the wrong thing will cost government additional spending, as the contractors do charge government for engaging their time.
He warned: “I will not like to see such situation of illegal construction, if such happens we are going to demolish without any compensation.”
The project manager Kanneh S.B Kuyemneh said that the road has several components, noting that the compensation was for affected property owners.
Other speaker who made meaningful contributions during the compensation includes, representatives from Audit Service Sierra Leone and the Anti-Corruption Commission, among others.
