The Secretary General of the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party the mercurial Umaru Napoleon Koroma Esq on Friday May 12 held very fruitful and productive discussions with the United Nations Assistant Secretary General for African Affairs Madam Martha Ama A. Pobee. The crux of the engagement was to reaffirm the SLPP’s commitment to a free, fair and credible elections and upholding the peace and serenity of the country.

During the discussions Mr. Umaru Napoleon Koroma spoke glowingly of the government’s bold steps at promoting peace and the many legislations passed in the last five years to open the space for free speech, women’s empowerment and media enhancement. Mr. Koroma also took the opportunity to highlight the myriad of lies heaped on our development partners by the main opposition APC, especially those relating to them taking sides.

Based on the records of the party, Mr. Koroma boasted of a first round victory for the SLPP and President Julius Maada Bio.

In her response, Madam Pobee dispelled the falsehoods of the APC reiterating the UN’s neutral position in the internal affairs of the country. She expressed delight at the progress the country has made over the years and encouraged all to deepen the peace.

Earlier Madam Pobee had held discussions with President Bio at State House where the President assured her of the political will to maintain peace, promote women’s empowerment and the conduct of a free and transparent election.
