Sierra Leone Water Company, SALWACO with mandate to provide potable water supply to Water Company to provincial towns has been taken cue from the president in showcasing the gains recorded in three years. In press conference that constituted key stakeholders and staffers from parliament, the board and regional staffers the leadership of the company has been given a clean bill of health by the Board Chairman Badamasi Savage.

His succinct keynote remark gave kudus to the leadership of the company in the persons of Managing Director Ings. George Lamin Vandy and Deputy Albert Harrison Harvey.

The two directors were proud to say that the current government has made the highest cash investment to the tune of a staggering over USD80 Million dollars.

Providing an overview of what they have done in six months, Albert Harvey disclosed that SALWACO has better performed under this government that previous government.

He cited a couple projects that have been embarked on namely: the Freetown Water Project, the ADB supported projects that serve as a paradigm shift from awarding contracts to serving the people with water.

He referenced the Bonthe project of 100 Billion leones as a project that responds to a neglected district that had not enjoyed access to water since 1964. This project is also inclusive of desalinization plant, it has been disclosed.

He added that non payment of salaries that used to be source of demotivation of for the technical staffers is nolonger the norm and the have even improved on billing systems

He also spoke about the 100 solar borehole project that is almost complete, measured at 80% to serve all fourteen districts.

He used the occasion to call on the public to take ownership of the expansion of SALWACO stations and water treatment facilities by refraining from illegal connections.

Buttressing the points of his deputy, Managing Director George Lamin Vandy asserted that SALWACO is nearing the West Africa regional average in water service delivery of 30% He said at the moment they have been able to attain 26% and with project support from EXIM bank and ADB they are poised to go beyond the regional average of 30%
