The Deputy Leader of Government Business in Parliament, Hon Bashiru Sidikie has pacified the temperament of customers of My Residual Income Global Company Sierra Leone Limited commonly called My Coin that the Sierra Leone People’s Party led government will ensure that they get back their money invested into the business that has been outlawed.
Speaking to this medium in Bo , Hon Bashiru Sidikie said that “I am seeing the tension mounting and people are depressed because they invested in My Coin business and are worried whether they will get their money back.’’
He added: “I do not want people to go with the idea that we as a government are not sensitive to what is happening to them. The SLPP led government is concerned but you need to know that the government is guided by law and we are in parliament making the laws,” he said.
According to him, if anybody did not follow the law, it will obviously bite that person who violated it. He said the business was not registered after the finance committee called a meeting “and I as the deputy leader in parliament in fact chaired the meeting where the Bank governor and the Financial Intelligence Unit briefed us that the business was not legally registered.”
He said the CEO would have followed the due process of the law but did not and because of that the two accounts of the business have been frozen. He said that the good news is that the people should exercise patient as the SLPP government is a responsible government that will ensure people do not lose their money.
Hon Bashiru Sidikie added that the government will be coming with a liquidator to investigate and ascertain those who were investing in the business as their names will be taken to and ensure that the money in the account will be paid back to them and if the money is not enough they will get back to them.
Some of the customers told this medium that they are waiting to see the government paying back their money. They thanked Hon Bashiru for looking into their concerns.
Some civil society activists in Bo say that the concerns of My Coin customers should be addressed as it has huge financial implications.
It could be recalled the Bank of Sierra Leone terminated the operations of My Coin because it was not legally registered and this sparked tension in Bo.
