In a significant move towards fostering national unity and combating escalating political tensions, the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) and the All Peoples Congress (APC) have joined forces. The historic collaboration aims to address political discord and ensure a peaceful political landscape in Sierra Leone.

The joint press statement, signed by Umaru Napoleon Koroma, National Secretary General of the SLPP, and Lansana Dumbuya, National Secretary General of the APC, underscores the urgent need for constructive dialogue and respectful engagement among Sierra Leoneans. As the deadline for the final report of the Electoral Review Committee approaches, both parties anticipate heightened political discourse and emphasize the importance of conducting discussions with dignity, eschewing personal attacks, and refraining from threats of violence.

The agreement between the SLPP and APC signifies a commitment to national unity and reconciliation, seeking to bridge political divides and promote cross-party dialogue. Both parties pledge to prioritize Sierra Leone’s interests and work towards resolving political differences through peaceful means.

In their joint statement, the SLPP and APC denounce hate speech and reaffirm their support for free speech and freedom of the press as fundamental democratic rights. However, they emphasize that such rights come with responsibilities and should not be abused to incite violence or spread hatred based on ethnicity, religion, gender, or political affiliation.

Moreover, the SLPP and APC express grave concern over recent instances of hate speech by certain political commentators, both domestically and internationally. They call on all Sierra Leoneans to reject hate speech and commit to supporting the investigation and prosecution of individuals who incite violence, in accordance with Sierra Leonean law and human rights principles.

Both parties also appeal to international partners to assist in ensuring justice is served fairly and thoroughly, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a just and peaceful society. They pledge to collaborate with civil society organizations and international partners to monitor and address hate speech and violence, working towards a safe and respectful political environment for all citizens.

In conclusion, the SLPP and APC reiterate their commitment to building a peaceful and respectful Sierra Leone, upholding democratic values, and fostering unity among all citizens. This unprecedented collaboration marks a significant step towards achieving national reconciliation and stability in Sierra Leone.
