Operation officer testified before Magistrate Santigie Bangura of Pademba Road Court No.3 in Freetown they raided SS Camp on allegation of drugs.
Operation Officer attached at Mountain Police Division, Inspector L S Kamara on Friday August 4 2023, told the Court that, on 20th July 2023, they raided SS Camp were they met a baffa at Regent High Way and arrested Umaru Samura alias Shakur and Mariama Kamara alias Mummy for selling Kush.
The witness said a team of personnel led by him (Inspector L.SKamara) arrested both accused, Umaru Samura with 54 wraps of substance suspected to be Kush that was inside a plastic, and Mariama Kamara alias Mummy with 33 wraps of the same substance suspected to be Kush.
The witness further that the suspects pleaded for mercy but they were taken to the Police and the exhibit was handed over to the exhibit Clerk at CID, he then made a report and it was produced and tendered by the arresting Officer Inspector L.S Kamara.
Both accused are charged on unlawfully possession of India hemp contrary to Section 48 (1) of the Pharmacy and Drugs Act of 2001.
According to the particulars of offence on count 1, the first accused Umaru Samura alias Shakur, on Thursday 20 July 2023, at Main Regent Road, Freetown, was found in possession 33 wraps of India hemp to wit Kush and quantity of loose India hemp to wit Kush.
On count 2, the second accused Mariama Kamara alias Mummy on the same date and place was found in possession of 54 wraps of India hemp to wit Kush.
On their first appearance when the charge was read and explained to the accused persons they pleaded not guilty.
Meanwhile, Magistrate Bangura refuses bail and sent both accused persons to the male and female correctional center in Freetown and matter was adjourned to the 8th August 2023.
