The Sierra Leone Police have held their weekly press conference on Thursday 25th march 2022 at the Sierra Leone police headquarter, at George Street. The director of operations, AIG Amadu Mannah outlined the respective crimes and gave brief explanation on whilst other designated personnel explained the progress of their division.
The spokesperson from the Office of National Security ONS Abdul Karim Will, stated that a year ago they had an engagement with the leadership of political parties to discuss specifically the issues related to the use of party loyalist as much as to provide everything for events of political parties.
He further stated that prior to those engagements the belief was that their Marshalls were complementing state security but as they progress down the line the ONS notices that they were far from the role they were expecting them to perform, they started becoming a menace for the peace and security within their political parties and they became the consort for violence among the political parties.
So the ONS had a frank discussion with the political party leaderships because of the violent behavior of these political marshals who were going to the extent of taking the law into their hands in the name of protecting their respective political parties. The ONS issued out a press release stating that the protection and security of the populace have been hereby handed over to the police only and all political Marshalls are banned from any form of practice, including the wearing of their uniform outfits.
The political parties were advised to enforce the ban against their Marshalls and they assured them that the Sierra Leone police are more than capable to protect them and that they can rely on them for their security therefore it is unacceptable to breed a squad to rival the Sierra Leone police. So the party leaders are expected to direct their supporters to work in conformity with law as any breach against the law will tantamount to it taking its course.
The Regional Commander Freetown West, Commissioner Manfred Victor Williams stated that one Aubrey Dickson at no 49 Dundas Street Brookfileds called on the patrol team and they responded to the call where they witnessed a corpse of the deceased Josephus Metzger who was stabbed with an alleged human bone.
The police were able to arrest one of the main perpetrators who was Christopher Lavalie and they were also able to arrest some other people with the owner of the club at which the incident took place, they are presently at the central police station helping the police with their investigations.
Someone was able to capture the killer and the murder weapon which is still undergoing investigations as the police are still in doubt of the reason as to why the accused person sees a human bone as a murder weapon. They have also involved experts who studies about human parts to give a further explanation of the human bone as a murder weapon.
The second report for his department this week is a robbery at the Ministry of Health Youyi Building, where the Support Officer reported of the robbery of two computers that have all the data and the detailed information of all the employed nurses within Sierra Leone being stolen. The matter has been transferred to the CID headquarters for further investigation.
Superintendent Edward Senesie representing the Commander Freetown East in his report states that, a 22 year old boy Patrick Sesay in Gbenguma got missing the 20th February 2022 only to be discovered in a toilet pit on the 16th march 2022. The investigation is ongoing and the boy’s corpse is presently at the Connaught Mortuary. The police now have two suspects who are in custody and the CID at Waterloo is also investigating the matter.
The representative of the Director of Traffic Management and Road Safety Superintendent Daniel Bockarie, in his update stated that they recorded twelve fatal road accidents last week and they have 37 MTR cases nationwide that have been charged to court. He added that they have been monitoring the guard street which was just open to traffic so as to decongest kissy road in order to allow the free flow of traffic.
These and other regional heads of department issued out their weekly report on catchy cases and matters that have been brought to their notice and that are ongoing investigations.
