SLP Frowns Against Misuse Of Social Media

Sierra Leone Police frowned against the missus of social media by handful of Sierra Leoneans staying abroad in an effort to threat national security and the hard-earned peace of the country during a press conference last week at its headquarters in Freetown.

Mohamed Brima Jah Esq, Director of Operations for the Sierra Leone Police said the negative use of social has turned as the greatest threat to national security as well undermined the effectiveness of the security system in the country. He revealed that few handfuls of Sierra Leoneans had continuously engaged into persuading and propagating wrong information to the vast number of countrymen, women and the youths in order to embark on a faceless demonstration that has the potential to damp the country’s national security that which was recalled on 10th August 2022.

Director of Operations urged the general public not to participate in any act that might cause violence otherwise involve in the misuse of social media as a contagious social menace that crippled the country; emphasizing that those people who have resorted into the wrong use of social networks with the aim of putting spanners into the existing peace, would be trampled upon through Interpol operations. “They are taking risk against themselves regardless of where they are staying,” Brima Jah Esq affirmed.

He mentioned that the Sierra Leone Police remains committed to protect and safeguard the lives and properties of Sierra Leoneans. Jah Esq added that the SLP has got an intelligent that some Sierra Leone wanted to engage into a public demonstration on the 7th to the 14th August without using the appropriate channel. He admonished the general public to make use of the SLP’s free toll line 119 or 900 from any mobile network to help digging out information.

In another details, Brima Jah Esq, continued that the country has recently experienced high rates of drug abuse especially among the youths, and the SLP made a number of arrest from those transporting as well selling the harmful drugs like “Kush”, Tramadol, Cannabis among others.

He said the Sierra Leone Police and other security agencies continued to make conscious fight against drug abuse that had created a big problem in the country. “The abuse of drug has made the youths to be underdeveloped and undermined their health condition in general,” SLP’s Director of Operations said.

He reaffirmed that the disperse of Abacha Street Traders, Lumley Traders, Fourah Bay Road and the Wilberforce Traders served in order to ease the movement of people and the normal flow of vehicles as well eliminated the high rate of criminal activities.

Dr. John Martin Senesie, Assistant Commissioner of Police and Regional Commander of Freetown East said the entire east end of the capital remained relatively calm and quiet. He continued that his region engaged in effective mounting of checkpoints at various locations both day and night. “We also embark on community sensitization in order to inform different communities about the relevant of peace and security,” Dr. Senesie said.

John Tumbay, Assistant Commissioner of Police and Deputy Regional Commander of Freetown-West mentioned that regular checkpoints at various spots were mounted across his region. He said Freetown-West continued to enjoy peace and calmness.
