SLP Fires Police Constable For Selling Kush

Sierra Leone Police has sacked police constable 5614 Sawyerr Williams for trading in Kush after a thorough investigation and analysis of the drugs. This was communicated during a press conference on Wednesday 23rd August 2023 at the Police Headquarters in Freetown.

Martin Senesie, Assistant Inspector General of Police and Commander Freetown-East said during an intensive raid operation by the Anti-Drug Unit within the terrain of Freetown-East, they arrested nine suspects including a police constable 5614 Sawyerr Williams with seventy-two (72) wraps of Kush, three pairs of scissors and a sum of one thousand three hundred and eighty-nine Leones (NLe 1,389.00) from his room at Grafton.

 He mentioned that this served as a testament to their preparedness and robust commitment in clamping down kush dealers and manufacturers regardless of their status or position in the society. “We are not going to spare anybody this time around who is involved in such dangerous business and this is a warning to the nation,” AIG Senesie emphasized.

He said the Sierra Leone Police would continue to reinforce the law to the later; noting that the disowned police constable Sawyerr Williams would soon be charged to court. AIG Senesie furthered that the Eastend Division embarked on effective raids and were able to arrest four suspects who were as well charged to court.

Commander Senesie continued that the Harbour Division and Kissy Division stood their grounds to conduct raids where the former made six raids and nine suspects were arrested as well as the later underwent four raids, eleven suspects ready to face the court of law for adding spice to the deadly plague (Kush).

Sylvester Koroma, Assistant Inspector General of Police and Commander Freetown-West said the high rates of drugs especially Kush that which caused deadly health hazard to the youths remained a disturbing phenomenon and even threatened the lives of meaningful Sierra Leone.

He urged the public to help in combating such abnormality which hanged behind the paled walls of the country through collaborative efforts from different communities.

John Abass Kamara, Police Sergeant and Media Officer for North-East said the entire North-East remained relatively calm and quiet as there were joint SLP and RSLAF patrols across the region as a way of bracing the existing peace. He revealed that they embarked on series of raids from different locations within Makeni City and the neighboring places in order to weed out Kush suspects. “Ten suspects are arrested during the raids in Makeni and eight are charged to court,” Sergeant Kamara added.

Alhaji Osman, Police Sergeant and Media Officer attached at the Southern region said they embarked on raids in order to clamp down Kush addicts and dealers and a good number of suspects were arrested.

Brima James Musa, Sub-Inspector and Media Officer tagged in Kenema, Kailahun and Kono said the Eastern region remained peaceful and calm. He mentioned that thirty raids were conducted in Kenema with nine suspects charged and convicted for the possession of drugs particularly Kush. “We made a total of 90 raids in Kenema, Kailahun, Tongo, Kono, Tankoro and Daru of which twenty-nine suspects convicted and fifty at the Magistrate courts,” Sub-Inspector Musa said.
