Bo District Human Rights Committee and Civil Society Activists in Bo have accused the police at the Family Support Unit in Bo of compromising a case of sexual penetration involving a 13 -year -old girl, allegedly sexually penetrated by two men on separate dates.
According to the Bo District Human Right Committee (BDHRC), the mother, Aminata Anthony of the victim first reported the matter case of sexual Penetration by Maada Tucker to the Family Support Unit in September 2021
The Committee said in the same year, the mother again reported another allege sexual abuse on her daughter by another perpetuator, Alimamy Conteh to the police for a legal action to be taken but to no avail.
BDHRC and other civil society activists went to the police station to know whether the matter has been reported to the family support unit at the Bo West Police Station and their finding was that nothing was reported to the family support unit.
On the other hand, the Police at FSU said that the matter has been sent to state counsel for legal advice but the Bo District Human Right Committee found that the file was allegedly delayed to be sent to the new State Counsel.
The State Counsel according to the BDHRC, told them that he has proffered legal advice on matters that were before him and some matters before him that lack substantial evidence should not be prosecuted.
The Bo District Human Right Committee and Civil Society Activists said that the police at FSU told them that the matter that they are pursuing is among the cases that should not be prosecuted as advised by State Counsel in the Southern Region.
Speaking to A-Z Newspaper in a telephone interview on Saturday the mother of the victim said that ” I took evidence to the police. I took medical report and the underwear to the police but were not accepted as evidence,” adding that ” I want justice for my daughter,” she calls out.
The police at the family support unit denied compromising the case and that they strictly went by the legal advice of the State Counsel.
