On the conduct of the June 24th multi-tier elections, Sierra Leone Police has commended the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone for hosting free, fair and peaceful elections in a press statement dated yesterday 26th June 2023.
The press statement revealed that with support from joint forces in order to provide security for the whole voting process, Sierra Leone Police ensured the safety of the staff and both used and unused materials of the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone were escorted to various facilities nationwide.
SLP mentioned that members of the All People’s Congress (APC) party were on 25th June 2023 seen in a long convoy, parading the street of Freetown announcing to the members of the public that the party had won the elections which attracted a compelling number of supporters at its secretariat in Freetown. Sierra Leone Police urged the general public to wait for the Commissioner of the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone (ECSL) to do the official announcement of results as tallying of results are still on the way.
The Press statement further implored all individuals and political parties to restrain from announcing any results or winners of which the ECSL has not declared any political party emerging as the winner. ‘’Dong so, it is not only illegal but also tantamount to a usurpation of powers bestowed on ECSL,’’ SLP affirmed. They warned the general public to go about their normal chores as their safety and security remain paramount.
