In a significant development, the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) have apprehended George Adms, Deputy Vice Chancellor at EBK University, along with Dr. Moses Kargbo, the owner of the residence, and caretaker Saidu Kargbo. The arrests, announced by North East Regional Commander AIG Aiah Edward Samadia at Police Headquarters in Freetown today, are linked to their alleged involvement in the attempted coup on November 26.

According to AIG Samadia, George Adms, a key suspect in the coup attempt, had been on the run until SLP personnel successfully tracked him down to Makeni. Adms was discovered hiding under a PVC roof at the residence of the Deputy Vice Chancellor of EBK University. In a dramatic turn, Adms fell through the roof during the capture and was subsequently apprehended, along with the university official and the caretaker. All three individuals are currently under investigation at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters.

Furthermore, AIG Samadia disclosed that 32 youths have been detained for their involvement in activities related to Kush (a local term for cannabis) at various motor parks. The SLP has been actively engaging with communities in Makeni to address the issue of Kush, which has reportedly become widespread.

In a related statement, Southern Regional Commander AIG Brima Kanneh highlighted the prevalence of drug-related offenses in Sierra Leone, describing Kush as a significant concern. He revealed recent seizures of five cartons of Tramadol and the arrest of Sufian Sesay, who was found in possession of a substantial quantity of Kush upon his arrival from Guinea en-route to London.

AIG Kanneh further detailed the interception of a vehicle with registration number AAV 247 carrying quantities of Cannabis Sativa, emphasizing ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking. He also noted the arrest of two police personnel during raids conducted in Kush hotspots in Moyamba.

The arrests and seizures underscore the SLP’s commitment to tackling both drug-related crimes and threats to national security, as the investigation into the attempted coup continues.
