In a bid of strengthening security and clamping down criminals across the country, Sierra Leone Police has arrested Chris Emmanuel a Nigerian drugs baron with quality of Class A Methamphetamine weight 60.50 grams and five tablets of Heroin weighting 15.5 grams. This was made know during the SLP press briefing on Wednesday 8th November 2023 at its headquarters in Freetown.
Mohamed Amara, Deputy Superintendent of Police and Regional Commander Freetown-West said the Goderich Division reported the arrest of Chris Emmanuel who was a resident of Baoma, a place in Goderich, Freetown was unlawfully in possession of Kush, Class A drugs quality of Methamphetamine weight 60.50 grams and five tablets of Heroin weighting 15.5 grams.
He mentioned that the Nigerian drug lord was arrested on 13th October 2023 and he is take to Pademba Road Correctional Centre; adding that the matter is in court for the final verdict to be passed.
Mr. Amara furthered that the Sierra Leone Police remains committed in affording appropriate security across the country. “We have strategized the formation of the Anti-Drugs Squad to enhance the flow of information from different sectors especially the media in order to aid our work,” Regional Commander Freetown-West said.
He emphasized Freetown-West has made progress to curb the rates of crimes with the support of the Inspector General William Fayia Sellu and the Local Unit Commander of Freetown-West. Mr. Amara revealed that with the help of the Inspector General of Police William Fayia Sellu, the Gulf Club and Aberdeen axies are lit with solar energy to drive away criminals, and help the safe movement of beach goers especially at night. He added that the regions of Congo Cross, Goderich and Lumley among others have made a number of arrests and the matters are in court.
Brima Bangura, Chief Superintendent of Police and Regional Commander Freetown-East said the region has embarked on series of raids to clamp down criminals and drugs lords. He mentioned that the Harbour Division conducted raids in three communities and arrested one Desmond Mansaray with fourteen ties suspected to be cannabis and three hundred and seventy-five raps suspected to be kush. “We also arrested one Abdul Kamara with fifty five raps suspected to be kush as well,” Mr. Bangura stated. He added that the matters are under police custody for investigation.
He said the Waterloo Division conducted raids and made some arrests. Mr. Bangura continued that two notorious drugs dealers namely Abu Nyillah and Gbao Kamara were arrested at the East-end Police Division with over one thousand raps suspected to be kush. He noted that the suspects are under police custody for further investigation. “As of now the region is relatively calm and quiet,” Mr. Bangura emphasized.
Emmanuel Cole, Deputy Superintendent of Police and Acting Head of Tocu Division said the dominant of kush has caused dying effects on the youths within the country. He furthered that the SLP got an intelligent from the Freetown International Airport about the coming of Kenya Airways with twenty-nine cartoons of 225 Tramadol brand in Sierra Leone. “We got hold of the luggage though there were no suspects found,” Mr. Cole revealed.
He said police is mounting investigation as to the owner of the said cartoons of 225 Tramadol. He mentioned that on Saturday 4th November 2023, the SLP conducted raids along the Aberdeen beach and arrested one Fatmata Kamara a resident of Cassava Farm at Goodrich in possession of colourful tablets that are suspected to be estacy or simulance with the potential to cause hyper-reaction effects of people. Mr. Cole mentioned that samples have been taken for thorough analysis.
Brima Kamara, Assistant Commission of Police and Media One said security is paramount for both individuals and the state particularly with regards to Sierra Leone’s legal instrument. He added that the primary function of the police is to provide internal safety and security.
Media One emphasized that the general security situation of the country is relatively peaceful as people are going on with their normal business.
He revealed that the SLP has continued with deployment of personnel across the border areas in order to maintain peace and security of the state. “SLP has made improvement to maintain security within the border areas as Liberia plans to go into a run-off in the shortest possible time,” Media One mentioned.
Mr. Kamara added that with support the Chinese Government through its Embassy in Sierra Leone, Sierra Leone Police has officially acquired forensic equipment from the People’sA Republic of China in a bid of facilitate investigation.
He urged Sierra Leoneans to remain law abiding and continue to maintain peace and sanity in the country.
