Through the help of West Africa Police Information System (WAPIS) which bends on clamping down hard-core criminals within the West Africa terrain, Sierra Leone Police has arrested alleged Nigerian national serial killer with the aid of effective cyber surveillance strategy at Leads Hotel in Aberdeen. This medium was informed during SLP’s press conference on Monday 15th October, 2023 at its headquarters.

Ibrahim Joseph Lahai, Director of crime services and Commissioner General of Police said the 26-year-old Nigerian was traced and identified on the 26th July 2023 by Nigeria Crime Services Department as a serial killer who had killed more than twice whilst on the heist of his operation. Commissioner Lahai added that Benjamin Nnanyereugo who turned a serial killer murdered his girlfriend Augusta Onuwabhagbe Osedion marking his list of victims.

He mentioned that the serial killer travelled lots of country and fell out of luck in Sierra Leone where he was arrested with five different passports in his possession. ‘’In partnership with West Africa Police Information System, Sierra Leone Police Cyber Unit and the Interpol service, we were able to clamp on him as a hard-core criminal and murderer on Friday 20th October 2023 at Robin Hotel in Aberdeen,’’ Commissioner Lahai said.

Commissioner Lahai furthered that SLP has informed the Nigeria High Commission in Sierra Leone about the offences of murder committed by the serial killer; adding that the SLP and the National Central Bureau (NCB) of Sierra Leone are working with the Attorney General’s office for allegedly killing his 21-year-old girlfriend. He said necessary arrangement is in place for his extradition to Nigeria for more investigation. He said even though the SLP has several challenges, efforts have made to strengthen the cyber security as a way of halting crimes across the West Africa terrain.

Commissioner Lahai assured Sierra Leoneans that SLP would continue to make strides in curtaining criminals who are using Sierra Leone as their peaceful destination or hideout.

In another update, Emmanuel Cole, Deputy Superintendent of Police and Head of Tocu Division said in the previous weeks, the Sierra Leone Police embarked on raids and mounting of checkpoints at various locations where they arrested a number of illegal drugs dealers and they are charged to the High Court in Freetown. ‘’We have made another arrest at the Freetown International Airport on an attempt of travelling with illegal drugs to Dubai,’’ Mr. Cole mentioned.

 Abdul Moijueh, Assistant Commissioner of Police and Representative of Central Division said the entire Freetown West and Central remained relatively calm and quiet; noting that they would continue to embark on night patrols within the city. He added that raids and clamping down of illegal drug lords and criminals would maintain at different hotspot areas.
