The Sierra Leone Football Association in a Press Release dated 13th November 2021 has denied that foreign based player Steven Caulker has Change Association. The press release reads that

The attention of the Sierra Leone Football Association has been drawn to a baseless and unfounded article titled “FIFA denied Steven Caulker Sierra Leone Representation” in which the writer cluelessly purports that “FIFA has disclosed that former Liverpool and Tottenham defender Steven Caulker is not qualified to represent his motherland (Sierra Leone)”.

Consequent to the above misinformation, the Sierra Leone Football Association would like to make the following clarifications:

1. Contrary to the claim in the above-mentioned ill-informed article, Steven Caulker has only played a single competitive match for England’s senior team and he did so at the age of 20 which, according to FIFA regulations, clearly qualifies him to switch international allegiance in favor of his paternal grandfather’s home (Sierra Leone).

2. Following the players’ consent, SLFA has presented all necessary paperwork to FIFA requesting for the switch of association for Steven Caulker and Issa Kallon and the federation now awaits a final decision on the said matter.

3. The writer DID NOT made any effort to speak to SLFA for response or clarifications as a professional and credible journalist would do to at least keep his story balanced.

Sierra Leone Football Association would like to conclude by urging the public to always feel free to contact the Media Department of the federation for more information about Caulker availability to play for the National team Leone Stars.
