Board Chairman of the Sierra Leone Cricket Association (SLCA), Treavor Samura- said the retreat will help the cricket membership to unite and also discuss the governance structure of Cricket across the country. The theme of the two days retreat is “Lead the game like it has never been led before”.
“Mr Martin Michael advises that we should make amendment in our constitution moving forward, he said when addressing the membership”, He said
“Our constitution does not capture strict rules in our board’s operation. The whole is five and not six, so we want to amend the constitution so each and every executive will know their responsibility or role. We should not be focusing our attention on politics because election is over. We will be presenting the Association’s budget to ICC and in the coming weeks or months we are going to engage each and every one of you to make your contribution in this budget. If the ICC is satisfy they will approve it, and if they do not satisfy they will ask us to justify our budget. We need to discuss all these things for the betterment of Cricket. We have many projects ahead of us namely the Njala University, Fourah Bah College and Sussex (Peninsula) to develop our facilities” Treavor explained.
Speaking to the Cricket membership via Zoom, former Cricket player, Rodney Michael said the principles of good governance for sport and recreation has been the sports policy which provided for independent revenue generation by the National Sports Authority (NSA).
He concluded that the NSA was empowered by the passing of the act in December 2017, emphasizing accountability to their memberships, in accordance with their respective statutes.
