The Sierra Leone Athletics Association has disclosed that it is set to hold the traditional Boxing Day Sports meet in Bo City Mini Stadium in the Southern District of Sierra Leone starting from 23rd to the 26th of December 2022.

Athletes across the country have been in top gear bracing for the traditional Boxing Day Sports meeting, where new records will be set and old records broken. The association normally uses these events to sport athletes that will represent the Country in International competitions.

According to the Technical Director, Harold Palmer said this year’s event is going to be on a regional basis and not clubs, noting that the Association wants all regions to be represented in the Showpiece events wherein the four regions will send their athletes for both male and female and the events will be in two-fold the traditional Boxing Day and the National Championship.

He confirmed that this year’s events are going to be unique compared to the previous ones because they will be expecting regional President from the four regions and they will be having an Extra- Ordinary Congress which is an instruction from IAAF the international body that every quarterly after Elective Congress they need to go to an Extra-Ordinary Congress map out transformations for the athletes and the development of Sports in the Country.

He further that, each region will be allowed to take fifteen athletes(15)  plus officials to the traditional Boxing Day Sports adding that the medals for the events have been bought by the Association, but called on the athletes to put their best and produce fantastic results for their respective regions.

Even though they are faced with financial constraints and that their only source of income is Africell, and other partnership with other local institutions.
