Thirty-three-year-old Mohamed Kamara, Zainab Turay, Mohamed Kamara Zakaria Sankoh, and Abdul Samuel Kamara appeared before Magistrate Sahr Kekura at Pademba Road Court No.1 in Freetown.
They are standing trial on two counts of conspiracy to commit a felony contrary to law, shop breaking, and larceny contrary to section 26(1) of the Larceny Act 1916.
According to the particulars of the offense, the accused persons conspired with other unknown persons on Monday, October 14th,2024, at Koroma Lane CalabaTown to commit the felony of shipbreaking.
Count two broke into the shop of Fatmata Kamara on the above date and place with the intent to steal four big-size mayonnaise, twenty big-size cooking oils, five cartoons of Maggie, twenty-four cartoon sweet milk, and other assorted items, all valued at four thousand six hundred and ten Leones, the property of Fatmata Kamara.
No plea was taken when the charge was read and explained to them.
Sergeant 9939 Lahai M. Led in prosecution witness number one, Fatmata Kamara, a businesswoman who recognized the accused persons at Calaba town.
She revealed that on Monday, she closed her shop and went to sleep when she heard sounds and told her neighbor about it and said it was not her; in the morning hour, one of her customers came to buy a bag of rice from her, so she sent her son Albert.
After she left a lady at her shop, she later updated her that something had gone wrong. So she immediately went to the shop and discovered that one side of the shop was broken and items valued at four thousand Leones were missing.
The matter did not proceed further because the witness was stumbling with his testimony.
Defense counsel C. Kamara for the second accused renewed his previous bail application for and on behalf of the accused
Meanwhile, magistrate Kekura refused bail to all accused persons and ordered their remand at the Male and female Correctional facility in Freetown. The matter was adjourned to 19 November 2024.
