The Sierra Leone single leg amputee team Wednesday 6th January 2021 defeated Liberia single leg amputee team at the Siaka Stevens Stadium by two goals to one (2-1). The friendly was meant to commemorate the January 6th 1999 massacre that led to the dismemberment of many Sierra Leoneans.
The kick off was done by the team Manager of the National team Christian Edward Dauda who has been very supportive of the single leg amputee team.
Sierra Leone single leg amputee team opened the score in the first half of play with the goal coming from the penalty spot and was converted by Gbasseh Koroma.
In the second half Sierra Leone single leg amputee team continued their impressive form to look for goals and they secured a penalty to make it two goals to zero. Foday James Lomeh scored the second goal in the second half of play.
The Liberia single leg amputee team started to push hard as they were lucky to get a consolation goal deep in the second half. Samuel Tembeh scored for the Liberian single leg amputee team from a close range.
In an interview with A-Z Multimedia Sports the head coach of the Liberia single leg amputee team said they came to honor the fixture and to secure a win against Sierra Leone, but that hope has been dashed. He found fault with officiating, citing the first half goal from the penalty spot as flawed.
He however said that they will go home and prepare more for future Friendly matches and competitions.
On his part, the head coach of the Sierra Leone single leg amputee team Pastor Ibrahim Bangura said he feels happy to get a win against Liberia single leg amputee team because this team eliminated them in the last Africa Cup of Nations Tournament hosted in Angola. He promised that they will do more to prepare ahead of upcoming competition.
Sierra Leone will be hosting the Kenya single leg amputee team in April 2021 in a pending development.
