Sierra Leone Telecommunication (SIERRATEL) has denied its privatisation allegation making the rounds in social media in a press release on Wednesday 30th March 2022.
Sierra Leone Telecommunication, which serves as the Government owned mobile network in Sierra Leone said the concession agreement has gone through the office of the Attorney General and Ministry of Finance of which no objection has been given.
Adding that the agreement falls in the interest of the nation as it would generate revenue for the Government as well creating massive employment for Sierra Leoneans
National Commission for Privatisation at the office of the President said it has not sold SIERRATEL to any investor.
It was mentioned that a concession agreement has been reached with Sentinel Telecommunications Company emerging as the most responsive company with the requisite financial and technical capacity.
The management said the National Public Procurement vetted the procurement process and no objection was given.
The press release ended by stating that the concession agreement protects the interest of the current staff of Sierra Leone Telecommunications (SIERRATEL).
The management of Sierratel noted that at the end of the agreement, the assets would be reverted to the Government of Sierra Leone.
