Sierra Leone’s Female Cycling Champion Prepares For RideAfrique Accra Criterium Competition

On the 16th of April 2022, Fatima Deborah Conteh made history by winning the second edition of the RideAfrique Accra Criterium in Ghana. As the next competition draws near, Fatima has started training with her colleagues at Aberdeen Beach, determined to retain her title as the top cycling champion in Ghana.

Despite the challenges faced by athletes, particularly women, in the sport, Fatima has continued to excel in cycling and make a name for herself. As a female cyclist from Sierra Leone, she is committed to changing the misconception that cycling is only for men. To this end, she has launched her own cycling club, advocating for greater involvement of women in the sport.

Fatima’s ambition is to inspire more women to take up cycling, break new ground, and constantly challenge themselves in a competitive field. Her vision is to make women’s cycling exciting, encourage more women to reach for the stars, and compete at the highest level.
