As the 27th Session of The Youth Assembly (August 2022 in New York City) proceeds, Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs, Lusine Kallon is cultivating a global network of young leaders and change-makers through the exchange, education, and climate action and impact program.

The four core areas of thematic focus are integral to the challenges faced by young people in Sierra Leone and provide exciting potential for young Sierra Leoneans to act on integrating peace, politics, education, and climate action.

In line with Sierra Leone’s Medium Term National Development Plan and the 2020 National Youth Policy with its theme “empowered youth leading the national development of a new Sierra Leone,” Deputy Youth Minister, Lusine Kallon, and Sierra Leone’s Youth Advisor to the United Nations, Isaac Bayoh, on behalf of the Government of Sierra Leone, has established partnership with American Field Services at the ongoing Youth Assembly.

The partnership seeks to promote and create opportunities for cross-country engagement in intercultural programs, and opening a  chapter in Sierra Leone with the mission to empower Sierra Leonean youth to become the leaders and change-makers who will strive to create a sustainable world free of war, oppression, exclusion, and poverty.

The essence of establishing such a worldwide network in Sierra Leone is to harness the power of friendship as a catalyst for greater understanding, shared learning, and sustainable action. This will mean more foreign exchange opportunities and scholarships for young Sierra Leoneans to represent the country at the Youth Assembly and the United Nations.

Intercultural understanding is mission-critical for our world which faces so many challenges and is so divided. With President Bio’s Human Capital Development Initiative, we are providing more young Sierra Leoneans with the knowledge, skills and values to build bridges, and create a more just and peaceful world.

The Deputy Minister opined that youth leaders and policymakers should strive to promote a society in which young Sierra Leoneans of all ages are integrated into policy-making processes that ensure our youths are recognized and valued in our governance ecosystem.

He further stated that as a country Sierra Leone is looking forward to the many ways young Sierra Leoneans will continue making a difference in the fields that they are most passionate about, by making global impacts through their own stories and actions, by taking up space and dare to reshape the world to reflect the progress and vision of a modern society.
