In a significant advancement for athletic development, the Sierra Leone Weightlifting Association (SLWA) successfully wrapped up a six-day Level 1 Coaches Training Course at the Olympicafrica Center in Goodrich, Freetown. This comprehensive program focused on standardizing coaching practices and enhancing the talent identification framework throughout the country.
The training attracted 26 enthusiastic participants from all four administrative regions of Sierra Leone, highlighting the SLWA’s dedication to spreading high-quality technical knowledge beyond the capital. This initiative aims to ensure that regions outside Freetown also benefit from elevated coaching standards. Notably, three aspiring female coaches participated, marking a positive step toward gender inclusivity in the sport.
Mohamed Bangura, President of the SLWA, commended the international expert for his invaluable contribution to educating local coaches as they achieve their Level 1 certification in weightlifting. He urged the coaches to transcend the classroom experience, encouraging them to engage with athletes in various gyms and support those who aspire to pursue weightlifting as a career.
International expert Kyle Peace expressed his appreciation for the athletes’ cooperation throughout the week-long training. He urged all participants to continue expanding their knowledge and dedication to the sport.
