Following their historic qualification for the African Nations Cup Basketball Championship 2025 in Rwanda, the Sierra Leone U 16 national team resumed training. Despite weather challenges, the team has maintained a consistent schedule, taking full advantage of clear days to continue their preparation.
In an encouraging development, new young talents aged under 16 have joined the training camp, strengthening the squad and increasing the depth of selection. This inclusive approach not only broadens the talent pool but also secures the future of youth basketball in the country.
In line with FIBA regulations, the team is scheduled to undergo mandatory MRI testing this Saturday to ensure all athletes meet the age eligibility requirements. Based on these results and ongoing assessments, the final roster of 12 to 15 players will be selected in the coming week.
Intensive training will continue as the team prepares for Kigali 2025, pending final approval and support from the Government of Sierra Leone. The team remains focused, united, and determined to represent the nation proudly on the continental stage.
