Sierra Leone Tug of War Association, CARBADDI SPORTS and Mass Wrestling Association sports have on 24th September 2023 officially launched the three Sporting disciplines.
The Launching of the three sports is in preparations ahead of their International tournament that is set to kick-Off in November 2023 this year.
Mustapha Aroun Korjie the Director of Sport said sport has the power to bring people together and have the power to transform a Country, noting that the head Coach Sonny Johnson has created huge impact in transforming the three sports.
He further that, “As athletes you have to practice the sport with utmost seriousness, because at the start there was no gain but in the end it will make people’s life meaningful.”
Kelefala Stevens the Director of participation and sustainable development said these are plans they have been putting in place as a Government agency seeing that all sporting disciplines reach their peak in terms of representing the Country, noting the lunching has been something the athletes have been yearning for all this while as it has come to pass.
He affirmed that, as the a National Sport Authority their mandate is to regulate all sporting disciplines in the country providing them with Government support to participate in international competitions. He noted that come in 2024-2028 it is not going to be easy for sporting disciplines because they want to see that sporting disciplines operate with proper Governance structure going forward in the Country.
He further that, as a Government agency they want to see more Youth involve in Sports to represent the Country, as they are aiming to see sport reach it highest peak in the Country.
Sonny Johnson President of the Kabbide sport who also double as the Technical Director for the three Sports said they feel happy to see that they three sporting disciplines has been launched, noting the grading system is to encourage the athletes ahead of their International tournament at hand.
He confirmed that at the moment they have two invitations for the Championship in Ireland club team. “We received invitations to participate in both the club and the National teams”. There are Athletes who are also representing Sierra Leone in the World Mass – Wrestling Championship which is scheduled to take place in the United States of America from the 2nd to 5th November 2023.
Noel Kitma Horton the President of the Sierra Leone Mass Wrestling Association said urged to be very athletes discipline as it is very key in the development of the game if you want to progress locally.
