This week, a coalition of women-focused Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Sierra Leone will participate in the Women’s Peace & Security Financing Conference, a key event aimed at securing sustainable funding for gender equality and peacebuilding initiatives.

The conference, organized by the United Nations Peacebuilding Support Office, is being held in partnership with the Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs, UN Women, and other notable organizations.

The event will bring together key stakeholders, including government representatives, international agencies, and local activists, to discuss strategies for enhancing financial support for programs that empower women and promote peace. Participants will explore innovative funding mechanisms and share best practices to address the pressing challenges faced by women in Sierra Leone, particularly in light of ongoing socio-economic instability.

“Investing in women is essential for building a peaceful and equitable society,” said a spokesperson from one of the participating CSOs. “This conference provides a vital platform for advocating for resources that can make a tangible difference in the lives of women and girls.”

The urgency of this initiative is highlighted by the ongoing challenges in Sierra Leone, where gender-based violence and economic disparities continue to hinder progress. By focusing on sustainable funding, the conference seeks to mobilize resources that will enable CSOs to implement impactful programs and advocate for policy changes that support women’s rights.

The Women’s Peace & Security Financing Conference not only underscores the importance of gender equality in peace-building but also aims to spark a collective movement toward a more sustainable and inclusive future for all Sierra Leoneans.
