Sierra Leone Technical Delegation Meets Senegalese Prime Minister on Mineral and Energy Cooperation

The Prime Minister of Senegal, Ousmane Sonko, on Tuesday, 2 December 2025, received Sierra Leone’s technical delegation working on the proposed mineral processing hub and energy cooperation between the two nations.

The meeting brought together Sierra Leonean and Senegalese technical teams to brief the Prime Minister on the significant progress made in their ongoing discussions aimed at strengthening collaboration in mineral development and energy.

On Saturday, 29 November 2025, Sierra Leone’s delegation led by the Deputy Minister I of Energy, Mr. Edmond Nonie arrived in Dakar for a three-day technical visit focused on advancing the mineral processing hub and the broader energy compact under negotiation between Senegal and Sierra Leone.

The delegation includes Dr. Eldred Taylor, Chairman, Office of Infrastructure Initiatives, Mr. Farid Alghali, CEO, Mineral Wealth Fund, Technical experts from the National Minerals Agency, Public Private Partnership Unit, Sierra Leone Compact Development Unit, The Solicitor General, National Investment Board and Director of Risk Management and State-Owned Enterprises Oversight Division

This visit builds on earlier diplomatic progress. On Tuesday, 3 June 2025, Sierra Leone and Senegal signed several cooperation agreements in Freetown during a working session led by Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh and Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko. Multiple memoranda of understanding were endorsed by senior officials from both countries.

These bilateral agreements focus on energy cooperation, development of natural resources, establishment of a joint mineral processing hub and facilitation of cross-border investment.

The initiatives aim to deepen cooperation and expand economic ties between Sierra Leone and Senegal, contributing to broader regional integration and development in West Africa.
