Chief Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh led a distinguished delegation from Sierra Leone to the International Conference on Financing for Development, held in Sevilla, Spain. The high-level forum brought together global leaders to discuss strategies for financing sustainable development.
Sierra Leone’s delegation stood out not just for its presence, but for its active leadership, co-chairing and participating in nearly half a dozen high-level sessions. The team included representatives from civil society, NGOs, youth entrepreneurs, private sector institutions, and government ministries, reflecting a whole-of-society approach to development.
Unlike in previous years, where participation was often limited to attendance, Sierra Leoneans played a proactive role in shaping the global dialogue on development financing as the world advances toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Dr. Sengeh expressed pride in the delegation’s performance, stating: “We are no longer passive participants at multilateral forums. We are here to shape the narrative and influence the direction of development financing.”
He emphasized the importance of cross-sector collaboration in tackling global challenges and delivering on national development commitments.
Sierra Leone also hosted several side events, creating a platform for sharing insights, innovative practices, and fostering international partnerships. These sessions highlighted the contributions of local entrepreneurs and civil society organizations, further elevating the country’s profile on the global stage.
The delegation’s strong engagement echoed the broader African narrative of empowerment and self-determination.
“Together, we are delivering on our promises,” Dr. Sengeh affirmed, underscoring Sierra Leone’s determination to lead by example in its development journey.
The outcomes of the conference are expected to inspire new initiatives, attract partnerships, and strengthen Sierra Leone’s position in global conversations around financing sustainable growth.
