Sierra Leone Taekwondo Association will on the 25th of June 2022 head to the polls to elect new executive members for the next four years.
The Elective Congress is set to take place at the Olympic Africa Centre at Goderich. The Elections has been long due, but the current executive is headed by Oness Abayomi Johnson the President of the Association and has decided to hold the election on the said date.
Before this date, there was a protest by some aggrieved members that they were not aware of the said election, the mandate of the current Executive has elapsed and there is a need for a fresh mandate.
Stevens Kelefala, the Director of participation and sustainable Sports in the meeting chaired by him started by telling the aggrieved party that he asked the President and his Executive to draw up and submit an Election plan or Election Road Map, and on 3rd June 2022, they received a brilliant Election plan from the President of (SLTA) and his executive.
He further that the said road map has clearly explained where the Association is heading and the New Trajectory they head to and he advises that the area that has to do with the constitutional matters can be handled during Congress day.
He advised them to look at the provisions in the Constitution that discussed the amendment, it is pointed out that (SLTA) Constitution says only the SLTA Constitution state that, the Constitutional Amendment can be done in Congress and that has shown the transparency of the Association.
The National Sports Authority did notice that there were lots of compromises with the way Associations we’re run but stated that if the governing aspects of the Association we’re not strong, athletes will never enjoy their benefits in Sport, which is a key pinnacle of the success of the Association which is the governance structure.
He encourages all to be patient with one another because most Associations were compromised to be registered under the NSA. He also encouraged Mr Smart and Kamara to exercise restraint, issues affecting them will be settled gradually.
There were many positions to be grabbed on that say, the President position is contested, the Vice President is also contested, and Secretary-General and organizing Secretary and Public Relations position is also contested and all the delegates have been duly informed.
