Following the Association’s remarkable administrative performance in the recent FINA Governance Survey under the Olympic Aquatic Support Programme (OASP) 2022, the International Swimming Federation has on Thursday 18th, 2021 classified the Sierra Leone Diving and Water Polo Association under the High Level of Governance level.
FINA’s goal is to ensure that all National Federations continue to evolve with best practices and procedures, and guarantee that good governance remains a priority with all National Federations.
National Federations were classified into the following 4 (four) levels of Governance:
• High
• Medium
• Basic
• Developing
The levels define the maximum amount for which each NF is eligible for the FINA 2022 OASP.
The FINA Governance OASP Survey For 2022, covered the following subjects,
• Vision, Mission, And Strategy,
• Structures, Regulations and Democratic Processes
• Integrity And Ethical Standards
• Transparency and Control
• Athletes Performance In FINA Competitions.
The Sierra Leone Swimming Diving and Water Polo Association passed the requirements set by the FINA Governance OASP Survey 2022 scoring 16 Marks from the 20 set in the FINA Governance OASP Survey.
Speaking about the recent FINA Governance Olympic Aquatics Support Programme Survey 2022, the President of the Sierra Leone Swimming Diving and Water Polo Association, Mr. Mohamed Abdul Turay, heaped praises on his executive, the swimmers, and the entire swimming family for their tremendous contributions in ensuring success in following the requirements.
He further added that this is not only a win for the Sierra Leone Swimming Diving and Water Polo Association but Sierra Leone as a whole.
He urged members to be steadfast in their office responsibility and continue the good work so that the SLSDWA will attain more international recognition.
With this new development, the Sierra Leone Swimming Diving and Water Polo Association stands to benefit financial, technical, educational, and moral support from FINA.
The Association was not among the five Sporting disciplines that the Government prioritizes in the Country with these developments, Sports was among the discipline that first qualified for the Olympic Games in Japan.
